Cool Runnings II? The women set to become Nigeria’s BOBSLED team as they look for spot at Winter Olympic Games for the first time
- Nigeria have never been represented at the Winter Olympic Games before
- US-based trio have set up a crowdfunding page to help them reach the event
- They are hopeful of capturing gold and popularising the sport in Africa
Nigeria are hoping to enter a bobsled team at the Winter Olympic Games for the first time in 2018 in a move that echoes the film Cool Runnings.
Seun Adigun, Ngozi Onwumere and Akuoma Omeoga, who are based in the United States, are looking to compete for Nigeria in the bobsledding event at the Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
But they might be hindered by a lack of funding. The trio need to raise funds for training, acquiring the high-tech gear required for the event and transportation.
The situation is similar to the 1993 film, starring John Candy, which was loosely based on the formation of the Jamaican bobsled team.
